Keep the fire burning!

Remember the first few months at work? The excitement, with a touch of nervousness, an unending zeal to learn and prove your mettle is vibrant in the start. However, as month’s lapses into years, the passion fades slowly with work being “just another thing we do”. While this could be attributed to multiple factors – monotony, differences in reality vs. expected, unclear career path in the future etc., it’s quite normal to feel drifted away in the course of our path. So how do we keep the fire burning, with such variations?
Continuous learning: There is always a better way to do things and something more to learn. Try and explore creative ways of doing your job. Identify your area of interest, capitalize on the online courses and company sponsored programs to enhance your knowledge. With the rapid changes happening around, it’s vital to stay ahead of the crowd by enriching your knowledge constantly.
- Uplift people: Identify those with talent and potential, but shy away from asking for help. Mentor them. In today’s corporate world, representation of women at the managerial and higher levels of hierarchy is considerably lower. Build an internal platform to groom and mentor aspiring candidates, bridge talent gaps and steer them ahead. When you elevate people around you, you grow as well.
- Don’t rush to complete: Take genuine interest in that you do. Rushing off to complete the task at hand to hop onto another will make you restless. Rather, cherish the task you are doing, put your heart and soul into it. It’s a great way to keep your passion for work alive.
- Know what comes next, prepare: Visualize your climb, acquire appropriate skills for the role. Besides from being equipped when opportunity knocks, it enhances your current capability as well.
- Be cognizant of your role; : Understand the effect of your role in the organisation. Whatever be your designation, the work you do will have a profound impact in the bigger picture.
There’s inspiration all around for those who choose to see, so identify what motivates you as a person and do more of it. Reinventing oneself from time to time and finding newer ways of doing things will fuel the interest in performing your job better. The motivation that runs inside is what sets you apart from the others, so take care to fuel it at all times.
